Short BiographyMd. Aftabur Rahman is currently working as an Associate Professor at the Department of Civil Engineering, Chittagong University of Engineering & Technology (CUET) in Bangladesh. Before that, he was working as a Lecturer and an Assistant Professor of the same department since 2008.
Dr. Rahman completed his Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering from Chittagong University of Engineering & Technology (CUET) in 2008. Spending two and a half years after his graduation, he moved abroad to pursue higher studies. In 2011, an award of ADB-JSP fellowship opened his entryway for Saitama University, Japan, for his graduate study. Two years of diligent works at Saitama University rewarded him the Master of Engineering degree in 2013. Later, he enrolled in the Yokohama National University with a prestigious Monbukagakusho (MEXT) fellowship for his Ph.D. study and earned his Ph.D. (in Engineering) in 2016. In a wide range, Dr. Rahman's research interest is Geotechnical Earthquake Engineering. However, his primary focus is to handle large deformation of geomaterials. Sophisticated numerical simulation has been conducted in his research project to find the insight of large deformation of soils. Several high index journal has been published based on the research. Recently, Dr. Rahman is extending his research area, keeping a spotlight on the geotechnical problems of his country. Estimation of liquefaction severity, soft soil, and slope stability analysis are the primary research area. Dr. Rahman also serves the academic community by reviewing articles of scholarly journals and writing proposals for getting both internal and external funds. He was an associate editor of the proceedings of the 3rd International Conference on Advances in Civil Engineering (ICACE-2016) and an organizing secretary of the 4th ICACE-2018. Dr. Rahman is actively associated with several universities, both at home and abroad. He is also supervising five postgraduate students. Apart from an academic career, Dr. Rahman renders various consultancy services in Geotechnical Engineering, especially, sub-soil investigation and foundation engineering as a member of the Bureau of Research, Testing and Consultation (BRTC), CUET and as an individual consultant. |
